Re: Tyre-kicking First Impressions

My Ghia does not have the suspension clunk you are talking about and I haven't heard it in any of the 4 Territorys I have driven. As for the brakes they seem fine when compared to the BA XR8 I had. The only problem with them I have had is nearly going through the windscreen during the first stop I make on cold mornings. For some reason even a light application of the brake pedal pulls the brakes on really hard, but its fine after that so it really doesn't bother me. No quality problems in mine yet either.

My understanding is that its the knuckle at the top of the wishbone. It just pivots and sounds like a clunk when it does so.

Its been an issue on some cars since AU and after a short while with it, you learn to dial it out as a noise altogether.

Re: Tyre-kicking First Impressions

Hi All.
First post, but have been reading for a while.
Driving to Alice Springs tomorrow to take possession of my new Ghia AWD.
Did a deal with Jarvis Ford, great service.
Selling my Patrol (2001 ST 3.0td) to a friend in Adelaide. He is picking up the Terri and meeting me half way in Alice, where we swap !!!

I dont get first drive though should be nicely run in by the time I get back to Darwin !!!

Will post some pics when I get back !! Looking forward to trying it out on some high speed sections. Fuel consumption will be interesting to watch. The patrol did 12s at 110k, 13 at 120k, 15.5 at 130k and 18-19 at 150k. Economy actually got better holding it flat at 160, because it was limited by revs, and as the fuel pump/engine management tapered the fuel off above 4500rpm it reached a lean burn/power crossover point. Bit nasty on the mechanicals though !!!

Petrols work so differently, I will have to take some time to get to know it.

Does anyone know what the CruiseControl max speed is ??? Important up here.

Organza, is there a Terrii owners club? And how do I join ?

Good choice.

Ford have limited the Terri & Falcon based vehicles to 180km/h, so I guess the cruise control will probably work up to 179km/h.

Can't wait to read your findings.

Hi Ferris,

Questions and Answers.
  1. Why didn't you buy from an NT Ford Dealer, the obvious one being the Darwin dealer? Seems an extraordinary effort to buy in Adelaide. Were the experiences you had at any of the NT Dealers that off putting?
  2. As johny says the car is electronically limited to 180km/h, so if the cruise would permit a higher speed, it would be useless to do so.
  3. Good question about the Owners Club. I admit I have absolutely no idea, but you'd have to expect one to start somewhere soon. When I was speaking in that thread I was referring just to the growing band of T owners rather than a club as such.
Welcome to you too Ferris to the T Owners Club.

Keep us informed of your trips with the T in the great spots the NT has to offer, OK?

Re: Tyre-kicking First Impressions

Hi organza.
Thanks for the reply.
I will let it run in a bit before doing speed runs !!!!

The reasons for the SA purchase go like this.....

I went to the local Dealer. Very helpful, no complaints. Yet their initial quote was RRP. I told them at the time I would be shopping around. My work takes me all over, so the travel is no probs

As I have to travel to sydney in Dec, I rang a NSW dealer I know. Their price, no fuss no haggle, was ~$6000 less. even if I was to get it frieghted, it would be better.

When I purchased the Nissan, I went thru the Discount New Cars website, and got a deal in adelaide ~$5000 less than local. The dealer at that time would not haggle, just got rude. So I tried there again. Jarvis Ford replied, and were cheaper again by ~$1000.

$7000 overcomes a lot of hassles !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, I have some work to do in Alice, so it is not as bad as one might think.

When you have been in Darwin for a while, a short trip down the track to alice doesnt seem that far. Only 1500km !!

I went back to the local dealer, and after some soul searching, they came within $1000 of the SA price. However, in the end could not deliver the colour/config I wanted for over a month.

Also, a good friend in SA wanted the patrol.............

For all reading, I apologise if this falls into the category of too much info !!

Re: Tyre-kicking First Impressions

by the way, if they ever hold another Canonball up here, a Territory Turbo would be just the thing.

As long as it was no a farce like the last !!!

Would need bigger tanks though. I already have the people who did my patrol tanks looking into it !!

Fuel capacity is my only concern. I have got very used to a 2000km range
