Question Updating to 7 seats, anyone know costing?

Had my Terry for about 4 months now, really happy with most everything. (clocked up 22,000 Ks so far!!)
BUT, being a divorcee, I have now met a lady who has three children of her own, and then when you add my two EQUALS SEVEN!!!!
I never bothered ordering the 7 seater option but now I wish I had..
Does anyone know of what I can do/upgrade to the extra rear seat, or aftermarket options that may be available?

Thanks in advance..

Marty

Re: Updating to 7 seats, anyone know costing?

Marty,

Congratulations on your new lady.

It will depend on whether or not you got the sliding rear seats - I doubt you would have.

The third row seats come with a different base for the middle row that allows them to slide forward. I doubt a retrofit will be very cheap. As an option the third row's about $1600 for the TS and TX and $1800 for the Ghia - so expect it to be a bit dearer than that again through the spare parts department.

Much as it depresses me to say it there are probably a few Territory's hitting the wrecking yards by now. I'd be checking them out and seeing if you can buy the seats through them. What you'll need is the complete third row seat including belts etc, new sliding mechanism for middle seats (or maybe even a complete middle row of seats as this may be integrated into the seat) and maybe new trim for the rear cargo area where the belts retract. It won't be easy.

Have you considered trading her in on a new one (the Territory not the girlfriend) - you might be surprised how good a deal you can get...

Good luck...

Don't retofit. Even if it is possible (as the 7 seats where a factory fit option) it'll be a huge pain in the ass trying to find all the right bits and getting the job done. IMHO it's not worth it.

Trade it in and changeover.

The rear suspension springs are also different, they areslightly stiffer to carry the extra weight.

Sorry, can't be done. Can only be ordered from factory and not retrofitted, due to ADR's.

Hi Martyn,
There are numerous changes apart from just the seat. You would need a sliding 2nd row, adjustable sash height on the 2nd row seat belts, 3RD ROW SEATBELTS, uprated suspension - just to name a few... I'd strongly recommend against trying to retrofit.

for the cost of the parts and the cost of the labour to fit the parts and all the hassles involved you would probably save money by trading for another t

Marty,

I've got the third row seat and its very much a compromise. If I was transporting 5 kids regulalrly I would be looking at a more purpose built people mover. But then again that would mean giving up a great vehicle in the Terri. Hope she's worth it!

Re: Updating to 7 seats, anyone know costing?

Hey everyone, thanks for the feedback on upgrading to 7 seats... yes I suppose it is something I will not worry about now, will see how things work out over the next 12-18 months and then I may trade up (the terry not the GF!)!!!!!!!!!!
