Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?

man i hope the car companies don't listen to you guys and stop building V8 4 wheel drives, i have driven many of them (and V10 Touareg) and dont feel unsafe one bit... I felt more unsafe driving an EA-EF Falcon in the wet! Remember as sedan technology got safer, so did 4wheel drives

Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?

I agree with you also Chevy, but as long as we still have options and Ford not do what Holden did with the Adventra initially (GEN III V8 only), then I really don't care. If the option for a TS hadn't been released, I'd probably gone Toyota Prado or Kluger.

If I had to pick between the two, I'd rather be driving a Territory AWD, than a Landcruiser 4WD in an acident. More safety features and car like handling.

If I was driving across deep river crossing, and rocky tracks, and not mostly modern roads, then a Landrcruiser would be safer for me, (even with V8). The Territory AWD / RWD (not 4WD) has what I want at the moment.

But hey, I think we are a little off topic with this thread...

a car like the territory is not meant for extreme power cant handle it

i saw a kid "p" plates in a v8 grand cherokee roll his car , not even goin that fast just cause the car aint built for speed....

so u tell me?
You're quite right Freddy - very childish on my part but your posts throughout this forum do make interesting reading - I'm not the first I see to take offence at your inane comments. Anyway nothing to do with this thread - apologies everyone. The Territory is a far better handling vehicle than my previous VT Commodore (without even taking DSC into consideration) and could easily and safely handle quite a bit more power in my humble opinion.

I agree on both points.

Freddy - you need to read what you write :-) It varies from useful to filler. It's not a criticism of you as a person, merely that some of the stuff you write is not fully thought out before you type it :-)

The Terri has better handling than nearly any common sedan of 10+ years ago and some more recent. It certainly has better handling than my old Magna. So suggestions that it's unsafe with more power mean that we should make the same judgement about ALL vehicles - which means removing ALL truck-based 4WDs of the road, every work van, most utes, most Kias/Daewoos/Hyundais, every car that doesn't have ABS, etc.

Comparing the Terri to a Jeep is plain silly. The Jeep is a VERY old truck with suspension designed decades ago. The Terri has suspension and braking systems that are as good as many better sedans now built. It certainly can handle more power and torque without being dangerous. I still think that Australia's old car fleet should be the main target of do-gooders. An old car is substantially more dangerous than a Terri due to inferior braking systems, suspension, tyres, and crash protection.

A good point freddy. I'd certainly prefer it if everyone on here kept their personal opinions of others restricted to private posts. I've been really enjoying this thread and hope it gets back solely on topic.

On the topic of increasing power, there are plenty of benefits from improved engine power, such as improved launch feel, towing, overtaking and cruising stability (less gear shifting). The challenge is improving these characteristics and improving fuel economy and reducing emissions all at the same time.

Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?

nah ... you can't close the thread!

I'm chuffed its up to 5,177 viewings ....

the T is great but it can be better ... after 30,000 k's in my silhouette ghia ... and the time taken to do that .... i'm leaning towards a more powerful I6 edition but not necessarily turbo.

be great if Ford could wangle another 30-40kW out of the Barra engine and throw a closer ratio .... 5 or 6 speed auto box behind it. More power, and a closer more matched spread of ratios would make it even more driveable with probable fuel consumption benefit as well. A good diesel .... the 2.7 V6 unit out of the Disco would be perfect .... would also be luverrrrly.

otherwise the car is pretty darned good as it is .... i'm sure there are plenty of other minor things ... but nothing sticks out as a huge issue.

I'd actually like to see some more industrial strength plastics inside the luggage area - they scratch too easily, even with just the luggage cover ends scraping on the plastic.
