Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?

Some of these may have been mentioned before:

Larger fuel tank - or an optional extra or long-range tank would be good. If it was simply made larger (have no idea whether there's room etc) I would suggest around the 100l mark. If we're talking an extra tank, another 50l would be good.

Boot lip protector (yes I now concede my Stonegard stuff is not enough here) in aluminium or ABS.

Front bash plate ( the bit of plastic at the very base of the centre front bumper) in aluminium - this might be a bit hard as it's part of the front bar - maybe a clip-over piece to protect it??

In the driver's side plastic trim of the cargo area, it "dips" inward - right at the back. Make this a small storage area for first aid kit and other bits and pieces.

Improve the shutting/locking of the rear door. A tip here - never take off one of the gas struts without having someone hold up the door - your wife will get smack in the head as it comes down! One gas strut doesn't even come close to retarding the door's descent - I was replacing the palstic moulding on the rear edge of the sdie glass, and foolishly thought one strut would hold it! - my silly fault I know.

Make the front passenger's seat height adjustable - even if it's only a manual system.

The rear window water squirter - make it "spray" like the front windscreen - not a trickle-type affair. Ideally give it two.

Add some additional functionality to the trip comp. - Fuel used since last reset; distance covered since last reset; distance to destination based upon a figure that can be entered at the start of the trip.

Sex-up the grille a bit on the Ghia.

Extra aircon vents in the 2nd row would be good - in the doors or ceiling - don't know how feasible this is.

Auto up and down on both front windows.

Dipping curb-side mirror when reversing.

Excellent and well thought out list, burnsi.

The only cosmetic thing I'd like is to replace the full chrome headlamps with the black surround lamps currently on the TX, on the TS and Ghia. Would significantly lift the "face" of the car!

I like the chrome.

Might not give it a sporty look, but helps make it look a little more prestigious.

Maybe they can make the black a factory fitted option.

A bit puzzling that one unless you're doing 160 kph uphill. Territory fuel consumption is at its best on a long flat highway. Expect more like 500 km. For Darwin to Katherine I'm sure you'd be pushing to consume more than 40 litres.

I think what you forget is that Ferris sets the Cruise @ a Minimum of 150kph!!

Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?

In all seriousness, even at more moderate (and normal!!) Speeds the range can be a problem. With many intervals between fuel stops exceeding 300 km, and with what 35 plus degrees seems to do to the fuel economy anyway, there is little margin for error.

Also, fuel from some of the locations can be particularly bad, making the economy even worse.

While I hold no expectations for the vehicle to do what my previous did (patrol with 220 L tanks) I would like to think that in this department, if none other, ford had the vehicle live up to its name !! Carrying extra fuel in the back of the car in 20 L jerry cans is not a particularly palatable solution.
Nor safe!
