I don't have that plastic spoiler on the top of the tailgate .... but if it actually did anything aerodynamic ... it would probably only lessen the amount of fine dust that accumulates on the rear window .....

The dust shower that the journo's complain about is a build up of dust inside the tailgate skin which falls out of the bottom lip of the tailgate when you open it in the full open position .... trust me, it gets you once and you NEVER forget .... LOL

Well there is a new 2.7 litre 4 valves per cylinder V6 common rail turbo diesel being used in Jags at the moment which pumps out 152kW @ 4000rpm with 435Nm @ 1900rpm.

Six speed manual OR automatic is available with a top speed in an S-Type of 230 km/h (manual) and 227 (auto).

Euro combined (city/country) fuel consumption of b/n 7 and 8 litres per 100 k's in an 1800kg S - Type.

Because on a dollars per km travelled the diesel model would blow away any petrol version.

Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?

VW used two 2.5L turbo diesel 5 cylinders together to make a 5L V10 twin turbo diesel for the Touareg, so i think Ford should do the same with the 2.7L

If you double it exactly as it is, you would have a 5.4L V12 twin turbo diesel developing 280kw@4,000rpm / 900Nm @1,800rpm
Use a 6 spd auto, and offer it on the Territory, Expedition (and bring that to Australia), Discovery 3, Range Rover, Lincoln Navigator, bring out a Jaguar SUV, Jag XJ series for Europe with that motor.

i can't see how it wouldn't fit as it would be shorter in length than the 4.0 inline 6 and wouldnt be any wider than the 5.4 Boss.

Anyone else like that idea?

Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?

FORD has quite a few diesels in their empire. The Land Rover diesel, (sourced from BMW) would be ideal. It would be that FORD here lacks initiative in the engine dept. If CAPRA can V8 a Territory , why not FORD???
Ford needs designers with initiative.

All I'd want (if I were to ever make the change) would be better brakes - the stock ones are frankly awful. They do stop eventually (but then so does hitting things) but they have no feel, inspire no confidence and go on their annual holidays at the first chance they get.

Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?

Should you have your brakes checked russellw? The ones on my TX RWD are brilliant - stops on a penny, plenty of feel, no fade. Very positive.

This engine would be great for the Jag XJ. I've read Mercedes could have a V12 Diesel in the near future with similar power and torque levels. (270kw/930Nm)
As for this engine in the Territory - yes please in FPV guise, unfortunately I fear this would be one expensive Territory.

Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?

Haha good one Madder!

I agree with most of the suggestions posted so far, although I think a diesel would need more than 2.7L, to retain decent off-boost torque. However a 5.4 V12 might be going a bit to far however, I think it would actually be too long. Perhaps a V8 3.6L version would be good.
