Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?
Actually Paulv, all the input in this thread is also the 'right opportunity'. That research will be done to get clear feedback from a specific set of customer groups, but that doesnt mean we ignore our passionate supporters and owners.
I'm reading all your comments and having a few good laughs along the way.
There are some great suggestions here and some time in the future, you will see some of these appear on Territory. There are also plenty that will never fly for various reasons, but please keep em coming!
TerritoryGal, what extra features are you looking for in a trip computer?

I would more than likely have one on order the moment a diesel became available, as long as it was mated to the ZF6sp Auto. Otherwise i am waiting til my dads AWD Ghia comes off lease, and will purchase it :)

Just to let you know, the 2.7 can be made in to a 3.0L TDV6, also they are working on a V8 version that can be made from 3.6L-4.0L
I think the 2.7L is a very European spec diesel, I think the 4L V8 Turbo-Diesel would be more suited to the Aussie market - if it shares the same kw and Nm per litre as the 2.7, it would be 210kw and 660Nm
Expect the 4L TDV8 to be offered in the Jag XJ for the European market, Range Rover, and LR Discovery

Thanks "Territory". I had sort of assumed you were "internal" to the Ford business from your prior comments. I just noted that an organised feedback forum was certainly a good way to guage feedback from all Terri owners. The feedback from this site tends to over-represent a small number of enthusiasts and therefore is not a true sample. What you WILL get from this site however are more carefully considered responses, because in general posters on a site like this are not just A-B drivers - they do actually care about their vehicles and understand what works and what doesn't.
Hopefully Ford will look at the more serious suggestions and use common sense one the others. So hopefully we'll see Turbo and Diesel versions in the next couple of years plus an RTV version to cover pretty much all markets. I'm sure that the marketing guys would kill the V8 even if it was do-able (given that you already have the Explorer).
Re the door closing issue, I seem to remember a manufacturer many years back that fixed that problem by activating the window winder when you closed the door to let some air escape. Possibly Mercedes? Surely Ford could do something similar - as the back door comes down a window winds down partially to let the air out.
Re the clock - I think manufacturers underestimate the importance of a clock. Often when you drive you are GOING somewhere. And very often you want to be there by a certain time (in the city anyway!). That means that a clock is quite important - seems silly but that's life. A good clock that's always visible is really important.
PS. My TS made it to my dealer (Power Ford) about 3 weeks quicker than expected and 1 week quicker than the latest schedule so I'm impressed. I should pick it up next week - woohoo!! Hopefully that means a BIG November for Ford
Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?
I too would like to put in my 2 cetns worth about the clock, but also about dash lighting as well !!
I do a lot of long night drives, and like to turn all interior lighting down to absolute minimum for better night vision.
The instrument lights, even at their minimum, are WAY too bright for me. The maximum is glaring and silly. The clock doesnt dim at all!
I do turn off the panel in the centre, but everything is still too bright. One disadvantage of a digital system, I guess. In the days of a nice analogue thumbwheel, I could turn down to almost nothing if I wanted, and frequently did, and could still see the instruments adequately.
For me, the max setting should be the minimum, and go liwer from there
I have been to the dealer, who say they have spoken to ford, and nothing can be done.
Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?
Have had an offshore ghia here in Nz now for 2 months. Wonderful vehicle. Pity about the customer service from the sales-people.
6 speed gearbox - this would be my only major request. And if I could upgrade my existing 4 spd to a 6 - I'd be in like a shot.
Here in Nz the ghia didn't have the 3rd row seats as optional - they were included, fullstop. I would probably have picked the wet/dry bins instead had I a choice. As it is, I've crammed a torch, monkey suit, FA kit etc down under the 3rd row seat (which isn't up much).
Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?
Darker colored trim would be good. The leather seats on my Ghia need cleaning all the time whereas the black leather on my previous XR8 never needed to be cleaned. Door trims always get dirty too. Its too light a color and marks show up to easily.
Re: What would you change for the next model Territory?
Paulv - I agree.
Ferris - that's a tricky one. I see your other post has some suggestions.
Asandir - I see Territory is doing very well over there.
Bossxr8 - yes a few have commented on that as was expected with only one trim colour.

While there is a small number of people regularly writing to this particular forum I get the impression there is a great number tuning in, probably because they are from outside the world of Ford and want to get a feeling for what's developing. So we're not all Ford enthusiasts by any means which makes some of our compliments about the Territory all the more meaningful. As a first time Ford owner I just nervously hope to hell that Ford and its dealers keep their eye on the ball with this brilliant product. Ford's past record probably keeps a lot of potential buyers away. Wheels magazine has previously identified the "A-B drivers vs people who enjoy driving" split in car owners. You'd have to be an A-B to own a blancmange of a car like the Camry but such buyers probably go for Toyota's reputation you see (boring but reliable). The Territory is definitely the sort of car to attract people who find fun in driving and maybe therefore tolerate a few quirks. But quirks will put off the A-B buyers.
Everything is generally right about the Territory except those niggling doubts about the powertrain and the dealers. Personally I'm not convinced a V8 is entirely a marketing turnoff - especially if it is an option rather than standard. It never harmed Land Rover/Range Rover. If people are prepared to think outside the Ford square I'm sure some beautiful little unit like the Rover one could fit in the space, give the necessary boot and give it relatively economically. Surely Ford can afford to fit up some experimental units with alternative powertrain options?
Fitting some dealers with a V8 also sounds worthwhile judging by some comments on this forum.
