Im in the market for a sports/rec family car and like you guys am waiting for the release of the terittory, much to my disbeleif the wife likes the look of them from the photos(wont drive anything other than a subaru) and is happy to check them out when released.
To me I think at this stage Id go for the TS awd and option it up,in envy
What every one elses opinion on the best bang for buck in the range.
Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, whether they are in the industry or just your average Joe Blow punter like me.
I think the base model is absolutely exceptional value. Brilliantly priced, especially compared with Holden's pathetic efforts. But to me the added goodies of the TS and the Ghia don't add up. Sure, I would love leather and premium sound and alloy wheels and all the other gear, but I don't see the Ghia being worth $11k more than the XT.
Perhaps it is because the XT is so keenly priced that the others seem a bit too much. But I think that of most cars. Obviously the manufacturers make a higher margin on the higher spec models than the bread and butter ones and good luck to them.
The problem is and always has been the trickle down effect. As more and more features get added to base model cars it becomes more difficult for the manufacturers to differentiate their premium models. I predicted this in the 90s when stuff like ABS and airbags started to become mainstream. Yes, it was an easy prediction to make...
When I bought my VT Acclaim there was a reason for doing so, ala ABS and airbags. But now I don't see why anyone would particularly bother with an Acclaim or Futura over the base model.
I believe that there are really only two areas where manufacturers can differentiate models now and that is sporty and luxurious. I think that is what Ford should have done here. Base model XT, sporty XR and luxury Ghia.
I would have jumped at a sporty model, especially something with different headlights. I think the Territory is let down somewhat by its front end headlights, just like the base model Falcon. Obviously this is done intentionally so that the XR Falcons can look HOT, but I think they could have made them a little nicer.
Anyway, I wasn't part of a focus group so... I will probably buy the XT with curtain air bags and be happy. I hope that fleshed out my one line opinion somewhat.
daabidoh, of course you are entitled to your opinion. No offence was intended by my reply.
On another note, when we ordered our stock of Territory a few months ago we ordered most TX's with the body coloured bumpers. What would everyone prefer?

Absolutely the body coloured bumpers. I'll be surprised if that doesn't become std with series II due to lack of buyer interest in the two-tone look (but I've been wrong before).
I don't think I can stretch my budget (what budget?) to a Ghia so of the initial offerings I think you have made the right choice RATT. However, from discussion I have held with work colleagues who are in the market in the next few months most have said they would look straight to the Ghia, it's very competitively priced with whatever you might think it's competing against.
Have you gone more AWD or RWD's. General opinion around here is why would you get a RWD when $4k buys you AWD, most expect a better resale on AWD's. What your insider opinion RATT?
Also RATT, any chance of queue jumping for a test drive for a FF member?
I'm on the south coast but make it worth my while and I'll come up to the big smoke.
Not that I am in the market for buying one (I'm only 19....) but personally body coloured bumpers are the only way to go. Otherwise the car looks tacky and plasticky. Less so on colours such as Silver and Black, but on Envi, Luscious, Mandarin, Zest etc it makes them look really bad. Good decision to get them mostly with body-coloured methinks.

Our order is evenly split between AWD and RWD so that we can gauge reaction at this early stage. So far it's leaning more toward AWD, so it appears AWD be the more popular choice. But things can change and that is the beauty of Territory, you have the choice.
RAPTOR, we should have a black Ghia sometime around mid-May and I can assure you that you will have a test drive!
