But can a van be as safe, go soft roading, tow 1.6tonnes or higher, have the same power, aircondition every passenger, have the same resale value, be cheaper for parts, have easy access to the engine bay, etc,. etc?
It costs like 50k but a Fairmont ghia is so much hotter?
My wife and I wanted a Fairmont wagon and waited for the one to be released in the BA range, they didn’t. The next best thing with the same luxury and safety was the Territory TS. I have had three Fairmont’s and loved them. I’ve had an AU Fairmont and loved it also. The Territory is much, much better than any Fairmont I’ve had, and after driving a BA sedan the other day, is constructed better, quieter and I’d admit, less power to weight ratio, but HEY you can’t have it all!
It has awd but you drive it in the city (most of u)?
Mine doesn’t have AWD, and for $4000 for the 2% chance that I will take it soft roading, it wasn’t worth it. Considering the RWD goes 72% of the places the AWD vehicle does, I chose the RWD. Researching does save you money.
It has horrible control when driving a bit to fast?
The AU Fairmont sedan handles great on pot holes and corrugations, but add a newly graded road with loose gravel and it’s dangerous. The Territory is a superb handler on dirt roads. Considering I live in rural Victoria and travel dirt roads every day, the Territory was a better choice. Possibly better than a van as well.
It’s a smooth car but so is everything
You need to research your Australian models a little more. Note awards, recalls on every model, parts, resale, options and we’ll see who is smoother!
You want to look cool sitting up high (lol ill accept this)
Never entered my mind. I’d admit when we drove it home the height was intimidating, but we got use to it. Now we can see over things better, which I consider a safety feature. It handles a lot better than the AU in tight situations, and isn’t as high as the 4WD competitors. Which reminds me, WHY IS THE AWD IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS 4WD’S when it comes to sales figures?
I’m not taking the “mickey” out of you, but the only van I’d consider is the Toyota Tarago, and even then, it would have to be because I have too many kids to fit in a Territory (not likely here, three is enough). Too many pro’s for the Territory over a van. Sorry my vote goes to the Territory or Prado.
I’d rather push my Territory than drive a van. lol
just wandering why u guys like these things so much i hav never ever considered ever buyin a SUV style vehicle
it can carry more people but so can a van?

Maybe I should post this in the XR8 Forum, (all in lowercase with plenty of spelling mistakes, of couse)....
why do yous guys like to drive cars that scrap at every driveway and speedhump?
why do you have a TE50 with 250kw but cant tow anything with it?
it costs over 50 grand and has a resale of maybe 30 grand with a very limited market?
Horses for courses, I choose what I like to drive (I was driving an AU2 XR8 before the T).....
Rocket

Hi Guys, Newbe here, Please go easy on me.
I am a first time Ford Buyer. I usually perfer Jap vehicles because because of thier gagets and finish, But I have brought a Terri for the following reasons:
1: I have 3 kids, 2 still in car seats. I tested every car model available, including Falcon, Highlander, Honda, Mitisi, and so on. There is no room for my oldest son with 2 car seats. Sure, I could have put my son in the 3 row seat, but then you restrict your cargo capacity. I didnt want a Pardo or any large 4 X 4 as I never go off road. The Terri is the widest car I found.
And who wants a Van!!!!
2: Yes the control is different than that of a sedan, but the speed limit is 100k
3: The Terri is just as smooth if not smoother than my Daimante.
4: As far as looking cool up higher is new for me, I will let you know in the future.
5: And there is no substitute for large cc"s. Terri has that over any jappa.
Ford has certainly picked themselves up as far as gadgets / comforts are concerned. Brought themselves inline with the top jappas.
Cons: Reversing is harder. Thank god for the reverse sensors. May I suggest that Ford implement a feature that some of the jappas have, when reverse is selected the wing mirrors tilt down a bit.

The Fairlane has this functionality. It is a shame that they didnt include it witht the 'T' as most of the other stuff is there.
well a territory etc can do everything a fairmont can do plus more like:
tows better
can put ski boats in without getting stuck
better vision from higher seating position
more room and storage
fishing or surfing on the beach sunday and into the office monday
all in all they are just more versatile i.e better value for money
but all depends on what you use your car for.
well i LOVE to go away for my holidays every year to some back block .... like the Flinders, the NT, North West WA .....
so I need to find something that for 330 days of the year .... drives like a car and is NOT a truck .... but for my 30 days away of sheer heaven .... can get me and all my gear there and back and into all the nooks and crannies that if I had a "car" .... something like a Falcon just wouldn't do it for me.
The Territory fits that personal requirement better than anything else available. Subaru's wont get you where you need to go off road, Kluger is designed for Californian highways not Australia and the rest of the medium/large 4WD's founder for their poor driving experience on the 330 days of the year .....
Territory is at the crest of a wave of these sorts of vehicles coming from probably all sorts manufacturers in the coming few years .... the question is, will they be able to do it for the value equation that Ford has?

Along with the tiliting mirrors I'd like to see the Ghia at least have a reversing camera fitted. The screen is already in place. Select reverse and the ICC screen would show you what's behind you.
I've filed that away on my future to-do mods list.
