just wandering why u guys like these things so much i hav never ever considered ever buyin a SUV style vehicle

it can carry more people but so can a van?

it costs like 50k but a fairmont ghia is so much hotter?

it has awd but u drive it in the city ( most of u)?

it has horrible control when driving a bit to fast?

its a smooth car but so is everything

you wanna look cool sittin up high (lol ill accept this)

OK - I'll bite :hrm: I note in your other posts that you've got an AU and a Focus so there's some chance you understand that different people buy different cars at different points in there life - I could for example ask why on earth you bought an AU but anyway...

1) why would I buy a van? - they all look ugly, have 100kw 4cyl motors, Front wheel drive and cruddy driving
2) why would I buy a Fairmont? It has nothing like the interior usability of a Territory
3) I bought a RWD version
4) I zoomed up to an intersection the other day (under the speed limit), dabbed the brakes and right turn - HEAPS better body control than my Itsibitsi Magna - what's this rubbish about poor control? Sure it's not a Focus but it's an awful lot better than you think.
5) It's a smoother car than nearly anything cheaper (including your AU).
6) Coolness was not the main selection criteria - I think this is the standard rubbish from car drivers that people only buy 4WD/AWD vehicles to look cool. That's garbage - nearly everyone's going to look cooler in an Elise

it is a lot roomier and more flexible
it goes off road
it is safer
it offers a lot more than a normal car and still drives brilliantly - even when a bit too fast

(for "it" read "A Territory" - not necessarily true of the opposition)

Yes Fairmont Ghias are hot but they don't have the versatility of the Terri

AWD can have benefits in the city too. I'm from NSW where most of the roads are as rough and potholed as outback tracks. Not really the best environment for stiff suspension and low profile rubber is it.

I do like to go on the occasional dirt road and into remote camping/fishing locations and the AWD gives me a greater sense of confidence that I'll get to where I'm going and back safely and without drama.

I do not need a tractor or something with the chassis and wheels that look like one to achieve this and I do not intend to try climbing boulders or fording rivers.

You haven't driven a Terri yet have you, it has GREAT control and is why I have been holding out for this vehicle and haven't even considered the Prado/Pajero type vehicles.

So where can you drive a bit fast these days?
I don't need 250+kw to go 110km/h (though more power never hurts)

lol of course i have drivin a territory or i wouldnt comment , and hell no ur territory is not better than my falcon au te50 in terms of handlin in my opinion

and i wasnt mocking ur car i love the ford explorers my freind has one...

As a new territory owner and proud of it mine is for a better life style. LOL
(1) no chains to be fitted when the snow is good.
(2) ability to tow a van in comfort
(3) access to those secret fishing spots
(4) better ground clearance for dirt roads and speed humps then my XR8 ute lol

First, I don't have a Terri but one's on the list of maybe later this year.

Must everyone have to resort to defence of their choice?

What about, I like it, I wanted one, I bought one, if you don't like or want, you don't have to .

Defending the choice of a mud crawler style 4WD for city use is a different story, there is no defence .
