My 02 Sport Trac seems to be running fine except it makes a noise that sounds kind of like someone is beating on a drum. I had my neighbor listen to it but he thought it was the bass coming from my stereo...my stereo wasn't on! It sounds like it is coming from the front of the car somewhere. Someone help!?
Try turning GENTLY left/right/left as you're driving if the sound changes or goes away when you turn one way and comes back when you turn the other way, it's probably a wheel bearing. Failing bearings are most commonly a growling or a grinding noise, but they can make other noises.
Another possible source of "drumming" noises is the exhaust system.
Thanks for the info. The noise happens even when it is in park. Sometimes the car will start shaking really hard too. I have given it a tune up but it still does it.
