04 Mountainer Gear Indicator Pointer Stuck

Has anyone experienced the red dashboard gear pointer sticking when moving from Drive to Park?

This is happening with increased frequencey on my 2004 Mountaineer (4.0L V6 AWD option) especially on hot days above 90F. The pointer hangs on Neutral or Reverse even though the transmission seems to move into Park okay.

Could this be a potential safety issue? It only happens occassionally and if I push in on the clear plastic covering the instrument cluster the red pointer sometimes springs back to Park.

Re: 04 Mountainer Gear Indicator Pointer Stuck

It is just the indicator that is failing and is not a safety issue. You have to remove the cluster to change it.
