Hi folks, I am new here and a new owner of a 1994 ford explorer. Anyways, I have this SUV and the motor is refreshed. Its been setting for a few years in pieces but covered up. Now I have the motor all together. New crank sensor and fuel pump. It runs great when you start it up. When you step on the gas it hesitates for a sec and then picks up. Now if you put it to the floor it only goes up to like 2 1/2 rpms and doesn't go any further. If you let up on it a little then it takes off revving up. Now if you unplug the MAF the truck runs great, but has little miss to it cause it is getting to much gas. What can I do to fix this??? I am running on limited funds so any help is appreciated.

My '94 sport did the exact same thing, but I only accidentally figured out the MAF was the problem. I still have a little hesitation and I suspect it's the intake air control module, however it is worse when the MAF isn't working. The rev/acceleration issue was solved when I took the mass sensor out and CLEANED it. if this doesn't work, buy a new one for a hundred dollars. Mine had sooty stuff caked on the wires and I just cleaned it for the sake of cleaning it - my explorer now runs the best it has since I bought it two years ago and the timing is now advancing properly (something it has never done).
