confused 1997 Explorer Sport Amp

The sub in my 1997 Explorer Sport is inop.

I tried to remove the sub cover and successfully cracked it. It looks like I will have to remove the entire panel to get to it.

Any tricks of the trade to get that off (without breaking all the push pins)?

Are there any options to remove the factory sub with an aftermarket? I am not looking to shake out my fillings, just a nice well rounded sound. With out the sub the stereo sounds like my sons fisher price radio.

Thanks!

Mike
