1997 explorer wipers won't shut off

So i am having some trouble with my explorer. If you turn the windshield wipers on intermittent, the wipers will function as though they were on low. When they are on low or high, they function fine. But when i try to shut them off, they just keep going at low. So the first thing i thought to do was replace the switch that controls the wipers, that didn't work. Checked the fuses, everything is ok there, so i decided to change the wiper motor, but that obviously didn't solve the issue either. I then spoke to a friend of mine, and he said that in these trucks there is a computer behind the radio, which controls the wipers, the four wheel drive, and a couple other things that i forgot now. So i decided to go ahead and get a used computer off of a truck in a junkyard, i'm friends with the guy, so i got it for pretty much nothing. Well i crossed my fingers and turn the windshield wipers on, but unfortunately, same problem. I am completely out of ideas, if anyone could please advise me on something i might have possibly missed i would greatly appreciate it. Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Re: 1997 explorer wipers won't shut off

I had the problem of the wiper staying on even in the off position, I replaced the stalke switch, which you say you did. Did you replace with a new one? I would also remove the "cap" on the rear of the indicator stalk and cut one of the wire I forget which one I did and put a separate simple switch to have a second switch to "disable" the low or in effect all the wiper funtions so than you will know the source of the problem because you will have disable the wiper, with the second switch. This all assumes the first stalk switch you put is a dud! But I have had this problem and am 99% it is the stalk switch - my 2 cents....
