Hello,
when i start my 2002 explorer the engine races to about 2000 rpm immediatly for about one second and then returns to normal idle. it just started doing it a month ago. no check engine light. is it an simple fix?

oddly my 1995 f150 (5.0) does the same thing.

are both suffering from the same type of problem???

any help would be appreciated!!

Try cleaning idle air control valve and throttle body .

Is it cold where you live? On a cold motor the engine does rev up (
high idle) until the engine temp increases then idle rpms decrease. But you state that it returns to idle, therefore it goes from 2k rpms to how much after one second? and is it only doing it at start or stopping at a light etc.
