mad 2002 and Newer Explorer - Quality Issues

1. How many owners have experienced window regulator failures? I am on my 3rd failed unit. This is the second one I will have to pay for out of my pocket. First was right before the 75k warranty ended.
2. How many owners have had the rear end rebuilt 1 time or more already? I may be heading for my second rebuild.

3. How many owners have had to have wheel bearings replaced? I have had 2 replaced.

4. How many owners have had the black box replaced? I have.

5. mass airflow sensor? I have.

6. Lift gate glass recall? I have but had to go back 2 more times to get the screws retightened.

7. Here is a good one. My seat belts donot retract properly. They keep getting caught in the doors when i close them. How many of you out there have this problem?

8. Plus the fact that i still have a loan on the car for 18 more months. Looks like i will be paying more for my explorer than what i bought it for because of the manufacturer's quality issues.

I would like to hear from you about the problems you have had with your explorers...

1. No.

AND I'LL raise you three more that are common quality defects:
A. Transmission replacement.
B. Rear applique split - broken off
C. Can't remember how many times I've had to replace prematurley worn brakes pads, rotors and calipers - even with very conservative driving.

Have heard about lots of tranny troubles, so far (Knock on wood!) we've lucked out on that one.

Re: 2002 and Newer Explorer - Quality Issues

1. Window regulator failures? No.
2. Rear end rebuilt? Once within first 5,000 miles.
3. Wheel bearings replaced? Nope.
4. Black box replaced? No.
5. Mass airflow sensor? Not me.
6. Lift gate glass recall? No.
7. Seat belts don't retract properly. Yep
8. Transmission replaced/rebuilt? Yep, 76,000 miles. Crappy solenoid/band arrangement to obtain a fifth gear...solenoid burns a hole in case. Resleeved with steel instead of aluminum.
9. Prematurely warn pads/rotors? Yep, at 20,000 (pads) and 45,000 (pads/rotors) miles.
10. Rear door handles? Both interior handles broke witin first 10,000 miles.
11. Cruise control fire recall? Yep.
12. Vacuum leak (TSB 01205)? Yep.

The list of MAJOR repairs for my Ford Aerostar was much more impressive. This is my last Ford.
