2003 Explorer alarm problem - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Hi guys, recently my 2003 Ford Explorer XLT has had its alarm turn on randomly while off. It has gone off in the middle of the night multiple times and its not because of a burglar.

After doing some research I've seen that it could be due to a door being ajar, while I know that all my doors are shut, the car always displays the "door ajar" light on my dash.

Anybody have any tips on how to fix this? thanks.

Could be one of the door switches going bad? Can you drop by a Autozone and hook a OBDll up to it?

Thanks for the reply. The car does have some electrical problems considering only half of my windows work.

Is there a quick way to just disable it? I really don't need it. Pulling a fuse? Thanks

I'm not sure about that? If there is a pats system on there, then I think you can bring it to the dealer and they can deactivate it?

Try spraying WD40 in the door latches and open and shut the dorrs a few times.

Exactly! Bert is spot on here. Try the simple method first. The alarm is going to trip because it senses that there is a door open due to a sticky latch mechanism. This is common, and since you have the door ajar light on already, I'm almost willing to bet that is your issue. Give your door latches a healthy dose of WD-40 both on the latch itself and where it latches. Open and close your doors many-o-times. Following up with some White Lithium grease never hurts either. That will freshen up the lubrication that dried up and wore away which caused this problem to begin with.
