2003 Explorer Sport idles rough and dies then starts again 3 hours later - Ford Forums

This is a recurring problem with my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport that I haven't been able to diagnose: It starts fine in the mornings. However, after I've driven somewhere, it will fail to start again. Basically, it idles really roughly and then dies after a few moments or it will die immediately when I hit the gas. The weird thing is that it will start normally again after about three hours. This problem happens about once a month and it happens most often after I haven't driven at all for a day or two.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like maybe the fuel pump is failing. Best way to check is to hook up a gauge to the fuel rail and monitor the pressure when it acts up.

Is your check engine light on ?If its on you have a hard code you will have to get the ECM read by a scanner , if its off still get the ECM read could be a soft code and still have a code , Any drivability problems are best checked for codes this will cut your guessing time down by a day or so .
