Recently, my 2005 Explorer decided to start blinking it's ABS and 4x4 lights at me for some unknown reason. The bad news is it's out of warranty. The past couple of weeks, I've noticed when I put it in reverse, it feels like the transmission is going to fall out. But it only happened in reverse until today. At 40 MPH, it jumps into gear and thumps. Any suggestions on what this may be? I'm not a machanic, just a concerned owner.
Thanks,
You have two different concerns....................
The 4X4/ABS problem will need to be scanned to fined the problem.
The other concern you have sounds like a TBS that was released for "Harsh reverse engagement" which involves replacing the trans solenoid. Either way, it looks like you will need to take it to the dealer.
If you were a loyal customer at your dealer and did all of your maintenance through them, sometimes the dealer can get a "loyal customer approval" from Ford to fix it under warranty. If not, then you will have to pay.
