We are purchasing a 2005 explorer xlt and it has the heating and cooling controls in the roof for the back of the vehicle. It does not have a moon roof. We are wanting to put in a dvd player but the space is tight since the controls are in the roof. What are we able to do? We don't want dvd players on the headrest because no one could view it in the 3rd row. Could we take out the controls completely? or would that mess something up? Ford wont install the dvd because once the dvd player screen is down it will obstruct the view of the driver, but I have seen them installed in explorers on the internet. Are there any options, such as a dvd that has can turn 360 degrees so the player is facing forward but the screen can be turned completely around?

Best recommendation I can give you is google Automotive DVD and see if you can find something that meets your needs. There's a ton of them out there. You might want to see what your state regs are on it, though, a decent system will run you over $400 after install. It'd be a shame to have to pull it out to pass inspection.
