94 Explorer backfire mystery

Backfires when coasting in gear (first thought it was a rear axel problem the way it grabbed and bucked). No other drivetrain issues under power.

Garage guys, always have been excellent, are mystified. Changed plugs, checked ignition, timing, etc. Unable to diagnose the problem.

Anyone heard of a rare or unusual problem with these symptoms, and know what might be wrong?

94 Explorer, 5 speed

I suspect it may be a trying to fail ignition module , is it dizzy or packs ( I am not familiar with this ignition)

Smog pump !! I guarentee it. Bypass it by taking the pulley off the front of it.
