98 explorer Passenger side door lock

Door will not lock. Power lock on this side will unlock bt not lock. I can't even push the lock down manually. Anyone have an idea how to fix it?

Re: 98 explorer Passenger side door lock

Sounds like the actuator has siezed. Need to remove the door panel to gain access.

Re: 98 explorer Passenger side door lock

I forgot to add that I can't lock it with the key on the passenger side either. I can put the key in and turn it both ways and nothing happens. Actuator seized then? How hard is it to replace or should I have it done?

Re: 98 explorer Passenger side door lock

If you can't push the lock button down by hand, the actuator is most likely siezed. If the key turns fully both ways, that is probably an additional problem. Probably the linkage is disconnected from the back of the key cylinder.
