Question 98 UP Explorer - 4L V6 - which engine?

Anyone able to identify for me which engine is in my 1998 Ford UP Explorer XL 4.0L V6. I only bought it this afternoon.

I realise that the engine is a Cologne V6 EFI. Is the engine a 242, 244 or 245 cubic inch? Is it SOHC (205hp/153 or 210hp/157kw - different sources give a different number) or pushrod (160hp/119kw)? Do these have timing belts or chains?

Re: 98 UP Explorer - 4L V6 - which engine?

The SOHC has a timing chain for sure, not sure about the lesser powered OHV engine.

The way to tell which engine you have is that the OHV will have the cam in the center of the engine, and the SOHC will have two cams, one per cylinder bank. I can't tell off hand with all the wiring and hoses on top of the engine as I've never owned one myself. I'm sure someone else will chime in that knows more about this particular engine, but you can also check out cardomain.com or autos.msn.com

Same engine I am working on. It is not a DOHC. It is a pushrod style. Not sure of the displacement though.
