Re: air bag

Has anyone replaced the pretensioner kit on an Exploer or Mountaineer? I had my Mountaineer diagnosed as needing the pretensioners replaced on both front seats. Ford want $500 to do this.

Can I get the kits? What do they cost?

How difficult is this to do?

What does it take to deactivate and reactivate the system?

The pretensioners are the actual buckles on the front seats. To replace them simply disconnect the battery, remove the front seat (4 15MM bolts) and then the pretensioner and wiring can be replaced. Not that hard of a job.

Re: air bag

Just run into a tree and see if your bags work!
NO , dont do that. Try reseting your computer module. That may help the problem.

It will not. These pre-tensioners are a known issue.

I have the same code on my 02 Explorer. I was told there was a problem with oxidation at the yellow connector for the passenger side pretensioner. The connector is not under the seat. There are a gray and green connectors. I also looked in the pillars but could not find it. Any one known where these yellow connectors are?
