Air bag codes?

Hello,

I have 1999 V6 4.0L Explorer. The airbag light flashes 3 times then two times (3-2) and then repeats. From readings off the internet, it seems this codes signifies a "Driver airbag circuit resistance high". Any idea where to look or what is causing this? Thanks for all the help you can provide.

MAA

Re: Air bag codes?

If that is the proper code description, then either the module (airbag) is needing replaced or the clockspring behind steering wheel. If you are unsure, leave it to the pros.

Thanks, it was the clock spring and it was not that difficult to replace.

Greetings from America to you too. According to the older Ford Airbag manual I have, Code 12 is "Air bag deployment circuit low battery voltage". the listed causes
1- An open circuit preventing batery voltage from reaching diagnostic monitor (i.e. check for open fuse)
2- A short to ground in the battery feed circut to a saffer sensor
3- An nternal short circuit to ground withing a safer sensor
4- A problem with the charging system causing the battery voltage to drop below 9 volts.

Hope this will help.

Code 35 is "Passenger Side Air Bag Circit, low resistance or short". So, depending on wether or not do you have side air bags. If you do not have one, look at the connector under the driver seat. Look for cut or exposed wires and you may need to trace the wires under the carpet to the control module at the passenger side. I hope this will help.
