I did an Auto transmission fluid change with ATF Mercon only, since I could not find Mercon V which is what the dip stick says. What if any problem could I face in future?
I do not use it for heavy duty or towing or high speed mostly around town but I do take it often times to 6000 RPMs in first and second gears?

Mercon V was designed to improve friction material stability, prevent torque converter clutch chatter and lower overall operating temperature, including shift temperature.
Ford units that require Mercon V (much like Chrysler and Honda transmissions that require HFM fluid) are part of an integral transmission/transmission fluid calibration package.
Lubegard has developed a supplement which converts Dexron III or Mercon fluid to Mercon V properties.Lubegard Platinum supplement converts Dexron III or Mercon fluid to Mercon V properties. I never tried it but I have used the Lubegard Automatic Transmission Supplement in regular services with Dexron III before Mercon V came out. You could try that.

Most auto parts stores carry V. I'm surprised you found regular Mercon as they quit making it years ago.
