I have a 01 Ford Explorer Sport - today the battery light starts flickering on and off. Everything works fine - no broken belt or anything. The weather is wet, rainy, and cold today. First time this has ever happened.
Update: Just checked it out when my wife got home - Battery light on full time and alternator charge gauge now on low end of gauge normally in the middle so it has dropped. When you rev up the motor battery light goes out momentarily then comes back on.
Do I need a new voltage regulator or a whole new alternator?
I went to Autozone. It is the alternator it was hardly putting out anything. Glad I bought the extended warranty - the alternator is $190.00 new at Autozone before the $35 core return. Off to the Ford dealer.
