console Brake light

My 2001 Explorer has a ghost: the console "brake" light stays on when the truck first starts up (some of the time), then slowly fades off, but if I turn on the head lamps, then off, the console brake light turns off (some of the time), other times it may or may not fade back on.

The actual brake peddle switch works fine.

Anyone seen this before?

Regards
tc

Re: console Brake light

Ordinarily the console brake light is on a separate cirucit directly from the stoplamps switch. This makes it function when your main brake lights are out for some reason and keeps it from flashing when the hazards are on.

Most likely culprit is a short either at the lamp or the switch. That should be all there is to the system.
