OK i have a 98 ford explorer XLT 4door. my probelm is that it is a ford...........lol J/K. know my door ajar light is on and i need to know how to get it to turn off. or waht could be the probelm. and also where is a good place to get a lot of after market stoff for my explorer
Sounds like a door ajar switch went bad. At the dealer, we would hook up the computer and monitor the data from each door telling us which switch is bad.
You could get a good penetrating oil like "PB-Blaster" and turn the key "ON" with all doors closed. Open the driver's door and spray the hell out of the latch mechanism on the door. Hold the door handle open and start slamming the door open and closed while watching the door ajar light. Do this on each door till you find out which switch went bad. You will know when the light goes out.
Keep doing this over a period of time depending on how bad the switch is corroed up. It is a temp fix if the lubricant does it's job, but you may need a switch later.
Same problem with 02 F250. I have pulled each door switched, checked for coninuity, and jambed paperclips in the harnesses. I have replaced the security module and the ip cluster so far. The oddest issue with mine so far is if both front doors are open, the light turns off. If either or both are closed the light is on.
I have a 2001 Freestar and am having the same trouble. I replaced the door jamb switch and poured the lube to the latch but still it says that driver door is ajar. What do I do next?
