Hey guys, so I have a 99 ford explorer sport 4wd. and just recently it started making a very loud scraping noise when I turn the wheel right. But now its doing it all the time except sometimes when I turn left it will stop but only sometimes!! It's a crazy loud noise when my windows are done but cant really hear it when windows are up. I googled the problem and heard lots of people like replacing all the front end parts.... but I dont have the money to basically replace like my whole front end for one part.. Does anyone know what the problem may be? its so loud and obnoxious....
more info from a diffrent person with the same exact problem can be found here there were no solid answers of what it is though :(

How are the brake pads? Have you raised it and turned the wheel? Wiggle the wheel for looseness?

They are pretty low need new pads soon...

Ok I jacked it up and its not loose but the wheel still makes the sound when spinning it with no pressure on it. It doesnt do it in reverse. Also the noise stops when you apply pressure to the brakes... My dad thinks its the brakes. Im starting to think the front left brake pads are shot. What do you guys think?

There's a tab on the brake pads that will rub the rotor when they wear to a certain extent. Take the pads out and see what they look like. If they're 3mm thick or less, they need to be replaced. A stone might be in there too.
