Fog Lamps Flicker

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. A while back the factory installed fog lamps stopped working some of the times. I replaced the console switch, but the problem did not resolve. I turn them on, they might flicker or not go on at all, but leaving the switch pushed in, over the next half hour they will flicker on/off and then eventually stay on. I'm assuming a short, however, a question I have, when trying to diagnose the problem in my garage, lights on, engine off, I push the switch in (i.e. on) and I hear a click under the hood (hood is up). Is there another switch the wires run through that might have a loose connection? I'm not sure how to trace the wires through the firewall and then to the lamps. Of course, the brights switch will turn the fog lamps off when they are on. Switching brights on/off does not do anything to fix the problem. Any suggestions?

Re: Fog Lamps Flicker

Autozone has a wiring diagram online for the car. I believe there's a relay under the hood for them. Check the owners manual for the location.

Re: Fog Lamps Flicker

Thanks Bert. Very helpful. Lots of diagrams to go through, hopefully one of them will locate an area to check for loose fittings.
