How can I open tailgate window?

My power locks stopped working on my 2002 Explorer awhile back. First, it was just the driver door that wouldn't work. Then the passenger door stopped working but the driver side worked. Was intermittent for a few months. Then all 5 doors stopped working. I also have the 'Door Ajar' light that is always on. I've read here that spraying WD40 on all door latches usually solves that problem but I cannot open the tailgate window as my keyless entry (remote) no longer works. Is there another way to open that window without the remote??

If its like my 04, there should be a button under the lip where the license plate is located on the tailgate.

Yes, mine has that release button too, but does nothing when pressed (even with the engine running).
