1995 Explorer XLT, 164000 miles. I'm looking for ways to increase acceleration and overall power. I have a K&N Air Filter installed. I've heard replacing the cat converter helps, but I'd like to stay away from that if posible. But it's an option if it would help. Any suggestions?

If you got 164,000 miles on a 95 Exploder and it still runs, please consider yourself lucky!

Add more HP to an already spent motor and you got yourself a hand grenade!

There are always the obvious ways to increase horsepower, Such as use higher octane gas, oil change, filter/fluid changes. Change your exaust, put cleaners in your oil, add supercharger, turbo, so on so forth.

Best thing for a car that old is leave it alone. At 150+ miles you can cause alot of problems by trying to do stuff. Dirt and grime can cover leaks of any sort and putting cleaners/perfomance fuel that burns hotter can open these leaks up and cause alot of problems. Even your break line can start acting up.

The main thing i would suggest is modify it to have a higher starting RMP (tighten the acceleration wire, or whatever its called) that way you have a higher RMP to start with and can accelerate to higher speeds a little faster. It will use more gas though.
