Need fix: 98 Explorer Radio Display

1998 Ford Explorer Radio Display stopped appearing consistently about 8 years ago. It comes and goes, but less so as time goes by. Everything else about the radio is fine, and the CD is fine. Any suggestions?

Re: Need fix: 98 Explorer Radio Display

My '99 Taurus has had this problem for two years. Only solution is to replace the head unit. There's a circuit board in behind the face plate that's the culprit. I find if I push hard enough on the face plate the display will reappear for a few miles at least. I generally just listed to the same 6 CD's over the course of a month, so it doesn't really bother me anymore.

A radio repair shop may be able to fix it. I would call a repair shop, tell them what you have, and see if they can give you an idea on what it will cost.

This is a very common problem and pretty easy to fix if you are able to solder. Email me and I can send you the fix
