I have a 1998 Ford Explorer 4.0L SOHC with a clicking noise coming from under the valve cover on the passenger side rear. It sounds like a valve/lifter out of adjustment. Is there an adjustment for the valve/lifters? Or what are my options for the cause of the noise?

There are no adjustments. It may be an exhaust leak too.

Thanks for the reply. It is under the valve cover. I used a stethoscope to identify where the noise is coming from. That is how I know it is on the passenger side, rear part of valve cover.
So, if no adjustment. Could mean worn down or broken part??

You'd have to remove the cover to tell. It could be a bad lifter, broken spring, etc.
