I had what I thought was a tranny problem when I would accelerate and sometimes wouldn't shift until 3000+ RPMs (usually from 1st to 2nd gear). It felt like it would get out of 1st gear but then wouldn't engage into 2nd, as I couldn't accelerate but would just coast. the RPMs would keep climbing, though, and usually when I let off the accelerator for a second, then back on, it would kick into gear.
Well, the fix actually wasn't in the tranny, it was in the rear differential. I was checking the oil in it during a regular oil change and found that it pretty well had none in it. I filled it back up with oil and the problem immediately stopped. So just a heads up, and hopefully other people find this useful as oil is definitely cheaper than a rebuilt tranny (that won't end up doing you any good)!
