powerlock?

i own a pre-owned 1996 ford explorer

has anybody run into a problem where the remote for the truck will unlock the truck but not lock it? this also extends into the power locks. i can unlock the truck but have to manually lock it.

is this a fuse problem? ive never owned a car with power locks and as such am new to the whole ordeal haha. any help would be great! i dont want to have to go around and manually lock the whole truck each time i want to park.

thanks in advance everybody

Re: powerlock?

Sounds like a bad remote. If the electric lock button in the cab works, I would put my money on the remote being at fault.

Re: powerlock?

thefonz: thanks for the reply

unfortunately the lock in the cab dosent work. the remote and the button in the cab will unlock the truck, but will not lock the vehicle. trust me that its as annoying as it sounds :)

any idea what that could be?

Re: powerlock?

Control module for the locks may be a place to check. I'm not sure where it is located on the explorer. I would guess behind one of the panels in the rear passenger area.

Re: powerlock?

It could also be as simple as the lock actuators are getting old and sticking. Take a panel off and get the actuator in your hand. Does it work then? If so, it's probably slowly failing. Replacement actuators aren't to expensive, typically.
