Hey guys, I ordered and receives all new wheel bearings for my 02 Explorer. I ordered them all because I got a good price and will replace them by process of elimination and return the ones I don't use.
The front bearings are obviously bolt on's, but the rear's seem to be pressed in? Is this true? If so, what does the wheel bearing repair kit that can be ordered do?
Remove rear wheels.
Remove rear calipers and shoes.
Remove rear rotors (Good Luck!)
Remove 36MM Axle nut.
Remove 18MM upper ball joint nut and bolt.
Remove 18MM Tie rod end bolt and nut.
Separate upper joint and tie rod end.
Remove P.Brake cable.
Remove lower bolt (22MM) and nut.
Take entire hub assy and remove lock ring (Good Luck!)
Press out hub.
Press out bearing.
Thanks for the details. I actually tore into it tonight, and all the items you labeled(good luck) were a pain! Of course I ripped up the parking brake shoes taking the rotors off, which I figured would happen anyway. I don't have a ball joint separator, so it will sit until tomorrow when I can get one.
hi ,i have done a rear oil seal on a 2001 ford explorer 4x4 an have;n trouble finding out any information on how to go about fixing it i tried the ford dealers an they said it would take two days to fix so i thought i would fix it my self thanking you for any help i can get jim
Remove rear diff cover.
Remove brakes and drum/rotor.
Rotate rear ring an pinion and find small bolt for locking pin.
Remove small bolt and remove pin WITHOUT TURNING THE AXLE!!!!
If you lose the spider gears, good luck!
After the pin is out, push straight in on axle and remove C-clip and slide out axle.
Change seal.
