Surging engine at idle
I've got a 97 Explorer with the 4.0 V6. The engine runs fine once its up to operating temp, but the rpms surge from 1X to 2X at startup. Many times it will kill after it first starts because the rpms go too low. It’s a manual too so this makes for difficult shifting. I ran a scan test and came up with:
P1000 OBDII Sys. Checks Incomplete
P0505 Idle Air Ctrl Sys. Fault
P1116 Engine Coolant Temp Sensor Out of Range
I replaced the CTS and it actually ran worse. With the old CTS my temp gauge worked, with the new one it now doesn't. The P1000 code makes me think the computer could be the issue???
Any ideas?
