Throttle cutting

I have a 1994 Explorer Sport and occasionally (usually on the freeway) when I'm accelerating or when the motor is under load, the throttle just cuts out for a few seconds! It's as if I give it some gas and it just gives up all together! If I let off the throttle for a moment and then EASE it back up just enough to maintain speed it seems to be sort-of fine (weak, a bit jerky). After there's no need for acceleration, it levels out and it seems to be fine. The only idea I had was that perhaps my TPS is being flaky - had similar issues with a Bronco II...
