Rubber boot of my upper ball joints on my 04 Explorer are split and water can get inside. Can I can just replace the ball joints without removing or replacing the control arm? I know the joints can be bought invidually. Any tech tips is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes they can be replaced w/o removing the control arm. You'll need a ball joint press. Autozone will loan you one with a deposit. You can also go to AutoZone.com | Get In The Zone!, sign up for a free account and search through repair guides free.

Thanks JWKO. I just get the parts from AZ and borrow their tool. I have to replace both sides. I don't know why the rubber boots dry rooted so quick. We only have 68K miles on the Explorer.
