confused V6 Explorer Engine Pinging between 2500 & 3000RPM???

Can someone help me iwth a problem i have with my V6 Explorer????

My "97" V6 Explorer Engine Pings between 2500 & 3000RPM, no matter what gear i'm in or throttle posistion!!! before or after this rev range it's fine only at these revs it pings badly.

has anyone had this problem or have any suggestions???

Sounds like the timing is off on your engine. You can try to correct the timing a bit for your truck. If you do not know how then I would take it to a shop and have them do it. Of course, higher octane fuel will generally eliminate pinging, until your engine gets so far out of time or if it is already that far out that no matter what rating you stick in it wont help.

sounds like cam-tensioners to me.I have a 98x with the same problem moreso when cold. Check the following thread
