1600 kent rebuild

Hello guys

I was given a spare engine with my escort its a 1600 kent motor that has never been recoed before. All the guy told me is that it needs is a hone new rings and bearings and camshaft(missing) if i were to bring it to a reputable maching place would they able to just hone it and then from there i could just order the parts i need from acl and put it in myself. with honing does it mean that all i need is stadard size rings etc?? when i run my finger at the top of cylinder wall i can hardly feel a ridge there so it should be good for hone right its like a hairline ridge.

cheers

Re: 1600 kent rebuild

For what it's worth its better to bore oversize and fit new pistons as in these X flow engines the combustion chamber is in piston.Clearance etc in them is more critical and often they have some type of piston damage on used pistons..Depends on how much you want to spend..Yes they are easy to put together.Check crank for roundness and clearance....

Use latter model cam and followers as they are wider, more durable from Mk 3 Cortina on E107E engine..From memory??

Re: 1600 kent rebuild

check the engine numbers and see if it is a 711M block, if it is it will have a beefier crank and bearings ( need to know when ordering ) and it will be a much better block to base a performance build on
