1997 F150 V6 4.2 Liter [255cu.in] automatic Gas mileage

This pickup has always had all tune ups, proper tires, etc.
what should the gas mileage be on this pickup? it's is only ~15 on the Highway. it is stock, never any problems, but the mileage is poor.

also what is the life expectency of the engine and transmission if cared for properly? coil pack lasts how long? please let me kow any hints and advice regarding this well built truck.

i have been working and am familiar on euro cars for the last 20 years. my daughter has driven this for the last 5 years and she returned it to us because she bought a new Ford. the last Ford i worked on was a 1976 Mercury SW. my best car ever was a 1966 Ford Fairlane XL 289 with manual transmission 24 mpg which i sold back in 1979. wish i had never sold it.

Re: 1997 F150 V6 4.2 Liter [255cu.in] automatic Gas mileage

My 5.0 litre V8 is getting 15 miles per gallon and its running quite poorly at the moment. So yours should certainly should be at least around the 20 miles per gallon area. Do you know what gears you have in it? How many miles have been put on it?
A looked after motor and tranny should last around 200 - 300 000 miles.
