hello, first post and need advice. i am going to replace blownhead gaskets on a 93 sable 3.8. felpro or oem? or any other brands that have been used on this repair. thanks, doug

I always use Fel-Pro, and have done hundreds of head gaskets in all kinds of vehicles. They always seem to have beeter quality gaskets than anyone else, including OEM.

And make sure you change the headbolts.

I used the cheap gaskets when my 3.8L blew at ~60k miles. At the time, I didn't know that the problem was endemic to this engine.

When it blew again at 90k, I paid the premium.

Also recomend sending the heads to a machine shop for cleaning/surfacing/pressure testing. But you can check for warpage with a straight edge and a feeler gauge and hope for the best. I believe 0.007 inch is the limit. This info comes from my 91 Cougar 3.8l but I'm pretty sure the block and heads are the same.
