OKay...I've been all over the net trying to figure things out and Kinda getting somewhere, but not really. I have the 93 LX with 1.9L I bought for $200 and it runs perfect. Me being a tuner/racer...I want more power. I found a 96 Escort that the title was lost to and am getting it for $200 as well...so I got plenty of spare parts, but thats beside the point.

I would like to put in a Zetec engine...or something that can put out a decent amount of horsepower and be able to better handle the abuse I put cars through. I primarily would like to go with 2.0 from a 97+, but am unsure of the drivetrain requirements or even what all would need to be done. Does it bolt up to the tranny or do I need a conversion kit? I read that the 1.9L and the 2.0 are the same block with different stroke so that means it would bolt up right?

Anyhow...if anyone can answer these questions that would be great. Or if you know of a way I can easily swap in about 180hp or more...that woud be great too.


I was also just thinking of building the 1.9 up cause at escortracing.com or escortfocus.com they have performance cams, gears, valves, electronics, air/fuel controllers, transmission controllers...and yada yada yada. Goodsites...and I figure I can MAYBE get somewhere close to 150-200hp...but am totally unsure. The full build up would run me about $1200...thus being cheaper than a swap.
