Re: Toyota 4AGE 20v into Ford Escort Mk2

does the mk2 have the brakebooster on the stalk? u'd need to relocate that firstly.
the 20v would fit easily as it the same block as a 4age (lighter internals and 10.5:1 comp 11:1 for blacktop 20v)
easiest box to use would be out of the square 84ish corolla sedan t5* serues (bolts to the 4age) with cable clutch.

the 16 valve 4age is basically a road going rip off of the lotus motor in the escorts and cortina's of yesteryear.
Same bore and stroke. same head and port design.

20v makes alot of noise and puts out about 160hp. quad throttle bodies and extractors standard.

though when it comes to running after market injection you need something that can support an air flow meter as a map signal can't be read from the throttle setup.

most cheap aftermarket computers run poorly on afm systems (from my own personal experiences) so stock management maybe the only way to go.

enought rambling.

Dom.

Re: Toyota 4AGE 20v into Ford Escort Mk2

MOST imported 20v $AGE's are from automatic's so they will come with auto ecu and will have idle troubles..
I have just come back from N.Z where a guy has fitted a Mazda 2.5 efi from a light truck with T3 turbo in an old Escort..This thing was well set up with torque to spare..Mainly set up for rallycross and car club events...

Re: Toyota 4AGE 20v into Ford Escort Mk2

the auto corolla's are usually single cam awfulness.
silvertop would be a 5 speed and black top came with a 6 speed at the end of the model run.

aftermarket ecu will always be an issue.

a 4age with twin webers would probably be the best value for money.

Re: Toyota 4AGE 20v into Ford Escort Mk2

sss in Sydney only have auto ecu's std last time I was there..Yes the black rocker cover is 6 speed but too expensive..While in NZ last week/this week where they have mega Jap imports nearly everyone was auto and YES it was a 20v Silver..Most people I know here have low speed issues with 20 v's..The 4agze is a much nicer motor to drive..Even better when changed to turbo...imo the 20v is all trevs and NO torque...Yes twin sidroughts would be much better take out any ecu issues, not sure epa would agree though...

Re: Toyota 4AGE 20v into Ford Escort Mk2

Manual Silver top 20V motors are not hard to find, I have two availble myself (thinking about putting one into a project car too). I don't forsee any problem with the quad throttle body setup and an aftermarket ECU setup, I've seen several setups like this, all that work effectively. Forget about gearboxes though - they're all originally front wheel drive motors, so you'll be wasting your money buying one with a gearbox, if your application is RWD. Blacktop stuff is also very hard to get at the moment, I've been looking for the last six months for stuff like this to no avail.
