Diesel R7

As reported on Blueovalnews, a baby Powerstroke diesel engine is being made. It is a 4.5 litre V6 turbo diesel (a 6.0 liter V8 minus two cylinders), which puts out 175kw and 556Nm. This engine was supposed to be ready by 2002, I guess it will still become available, and to me, it would make sense for Ford offer it in the R7. Hopefully Ford and Navistar will fix the emissions ready for production soon.

I wonder how much screwing around it would take to make the I6 a Diesel?

A diesel engine would make sense if Ford were wanting to export the R7, especially for places like Europe and UK where fuel prices are not quite affordable.

It will be a good idea for Australia too. Farmers and others in rural areas may see it as a viable alternative to their current offerings. But that is only if Powerstroke is made to suite our poor quality diesel.

I think I may have read somewhere that the quality of our diesel going to increase in 2003/4 to meet with some kind of international standard. Not sure though.

This is an interesting bit of news. I think I read somewhere that Holden were trialling a Diesel for the Cross8. So there is obviously a market for it.

The I6 could probably be adapted to diesel without a huge amount of fuss. I have seen GM 6.5L V8 engines converted from petrol to Diesel.

Ford own Cummins, it would make sense for them, when Cummins' contract with Dodge expires, to source the B5.9 TD engine for the Raptor and F-series trucks.
