An Indian automotive firm, (US$1.2 Billion company, employing 10,000), seeks a head of Diesel engine design engineering. Firm has a very strong presence in the micro commercial segment, with a range of world-class two- and three-wheelers (motorcycles, scooters, pick-ups and delivery vans). The firm has always been a cash surplus company, with zero debt and negative working capital. The firm has a very good competency in developing small gasoline engines for motorcycles and commercial vehicles, and they are planning to extend this capability into the area of Diesel Engine design. The firm now seeks a senior professional who has the capability of leading a team developing Diesel Engines.
The company has ambitious plans to grow this segment further into higher tonnages to bridge the gap between micro commercial vehicles and light commercial vehicles (LCV). Newer configurations would need newer engine platforms. Hence, the automotive firm is searching for a person who can head this initiative, putting together a development program and building the firm's capabilities in this field, step by step. To this extent, this is a long-term position and of strategic importance to the organisation.
The firm requires a person with core competency in Diesel engine design. Should have a track record of ground up development. While the firm is looking at development of small capacity diesels, persons with experience in large diesels could also fit in. Preference to Auto engines, while stationary engines would be a second choice.
