I have just purchased a 09 escape hybrid limited 4wd w/ 55k after a car hit & totaled my jeep. Cert pre-owned dealer offers extended warranty for $1300 (came with power train warranty).

My question is how good is fords extended warranty?

Is it as good as it sounds? (its supposed to cover breaks, ac, mechanical & labor or so they say) Worth the investment? Dealer has given me some add'l time to add it (my mechanic & others have said it's a rip off).

Should I take them up on the extended package? Has anyone any experience with having purchased one & attempted or needed to put it to use at a ford servicing center? Did buying one pay off?

Any help &/or directional advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

With all warranties you have to read it thoroughly to see what is really covered and whether it justifies the outlay . Usually find they seem great till you read the exceptions part of the cover .Also depends on what sort of mileage you tend to do and whether the policy is related to that , as normally is .Sold many different ones over here in years gone buy to customers buying cars before considered them not worth the hassle to customer or garage.But your call , may be better and different nowadays .

Keep in mind that all warranties are if something happens. We can't fortell the future, at least I can't, so, if you have the green to spare - go for it. On my Escape 2009-Hybrid, the manufacture's drive-train warranty is 10 years or 100,000 miles, in fact the service department checked the computer and said that the warranty on the batteries was 10 years or 150,000 miles. I hope this car gives you the service I have been getting with mine - SUPER!

Some Hybrid owners have had problems with dealers wanting to charge for battery pack fans which are part of the system and covered under warranty. Even Ford CS has backed up the dealers at first. The owners have won but it took a bit of fighting.
